Doug Larson | Steve Knox Things That Need To Be Said
Doug is the old guy. He spent 35 years doing research and teaching ecology at the University of Guelph. He is best known for studying the ecology of cliffs which led to the discovery of ancient cedar forests on the cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment.
Doug wrote several books (Cliff Ecology (Cambridge), The Urban Cliff Revolution (Fitzhenry and Whiteside), the Last Stand (Dundurn) and over a hundred research papers dealing with his work. He also was also the media's go-to guy for 'old things' since his lab had discovered the most ancient trees in eastern North America.
While doing all this, Doug has also been a woodworker, guitar maker and musician. Doug's band was called Kid Coma and played from 2005 to 2009. The most recent Kid Coma album "Complete Metamorphosis" is available on iTunes.
Doug's most well known instrument building project was called the 'Storyteller Guitar' - an instrument that was built using historical artifacts from around the world. The story of building the Storyteller is told in a book entitled "Storyteller Guitar "(Dundurn). Doug and Steve have been friends for years and Steve produced and played on the last album. Doug LOVES old things and old technologies. That's why this record was pressed on vinyl. We hope you have a turntable!
