Lickin the bones. Charles Darwin wrote in the Origin of Species (1859) that organisms evolve based on their inherent variation when exposed to changes in the environment. The same thing applies to economics. When Russian entrepreneurs replaced a native fishery with Nile Perch in Lake Victoria, the local economy based on the diverse native fish community was destroyed. Hubert Sauper's 2006 film Darwins Nightmare explores this form of Darwinian evolution. The photo is taken from Sauper and used with permission.
